Knowledge about Trekking Maps

Maps are the graphic representation of the surface of the earth or a part if it showing its geographical features they  are considered very important tools in the filed of travel and tourism in this regards different map are prepared for different purpose with regional scale.

In the field of tourism geography one should have sound knowledge in tourism maps that contain physical features of that areas with contours (imaginary lines only in trekking maps)  to show relief conditions and existing land users. They are roads, funds, greenery, settlements religious side, communication network etc.

Trekking maps basic info

1 inch = 1 km...
After every rainy season  trekking maps should be up to date.............due to the flood, soil erosion... the trekking way is damage and lost so the old maps may create problems if it don"t get updated

Basic Notes from Class

1° = 4 minutes,

West always should be added with greenwich time.
Where as east we have to minus with greenwich time.

Caption; Earth's polar grid of  latitude parallels and longitude meridians is based on Earth's equator and poles.  Find the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus of Montgomery College on the globe at 38 degrees 58 arc minutes =38.96666666667 degrees North Latitude and 77 degrees=5 arc hours and 8 arc minutes West Longitude! There are 60 arc minutes in a degree so 38 degrees 58 arc minutes is almost 39 degrees.   The historically important Gaithersburg transit telescope observatory just north of Gaithersburg High School is at 39 degrees and 2 arc minutes North Latitude.  77 degrees West Lontitude is the same as 5 hours and 8 minutes in rotation time.  360 degrees on longitude is equal to 24 hours of time in rotation.  Can you see how this is true?  15 degrees/hour, 1 degree/4 minutes.

Latitude, Longitude and Wrold time Calculation (Note)

These terminology are very important to be familiar in the term of tourism geography. In this regard one should have the knowledge about rotation and revolution of the earth. Rotation denotes west to east movement of the earth on its axis at 25° resulting the sunrise in the east and set in the west. It always completes it rotation in 24 hours causing the variation of length of the day and night at different part on the earth surface this movement is always causes timing fast (a head) in the east and let in the west  depending upon the cross selection of latitude and longitude of an area.

In case of revolution the earth takes circle around the sum with the different climatic condition with the different part of the world.

Latitude are define as a angular distance north and south of equator at the center of the earth. The equator has 0° angel where as north and south poles of 90° angel each making a total of 180°. It is always majored in degree minutes and second. Similarly longitude are the measurement  of distance on the surface of the earth east and west of greenwich meridian. They are the lines drawn from north pole to south pole on a world map.

It is a imaginary line from pole to pole through 0° greenwich in london. IT is meauserd in a dtgree of an angle taken from the centre of the earth. The centre is used to fc standred time and all countries hace their respective locla timimig. Always international standred time  ahol local time are used as a basis to know the time differnce of any two seprate areas within or outside countrie in this regard countries in this regard country's east of greenwich have always there time a head or fast depending upon the degree if its location. Time west of it is slow for 1° by 4 minute the location of places always guided by its grid references encompassing its latitude and longitude grid are the pattern of straight lines crossing each other to square that give the total courage of the area.

Relation between Geography and Tourism (Note)

Geography concern with the studies of Spartacus expression and tourism deals with human activities they both focus the area that generate and receives for both fields covers from global to local distention depending upon suitable climatic zone affordability and liking places in tourism geography leisure, recreation and affordability have their interdependent roles.

As leisure is always concerned as a major of times followed by work and rest also it is a free time to spend as for liking. In this respect tourism always get involves in the recreation of short stay away from home.

Defination of Tourism
"It is a business activity directly linked with providing accommodation services and entertainment for people who visit places for their pleasure."

Two scholars "Mathison" and "Wall" are considered as export in tourism and they defined it in 1982 A.D. as at temporary movement of people to various destination out side the normal place of work and residence.

Tourism Geography (Net base copy)

           Tourism geography

     Tourists at Niagara Falls.

Tourism Geography is the study of travel and tourism, as an industry and as a social and cultural activity. Tourism geography covers a wide range of interests including the environmental impact of tourism, the geographies of tourism and leisure economies, answering tourism industry and management concerns and the sociology of tourism and locations of tourism.
Tourism geography is that branch of science which deals with the study of travel and its impact on places.
Geography is fundamental to the study of tourism, because tourism is geographical in nature. Tourism occurs in places, it involves movement and activities between places and it is an activity in which both place characteristics and personal self-identities are formed, through the relationships that are created among places, landscapes and people. Physical geography provides the essential background, against which tourism places are created and environmental impacts and concerns are major issues, that must be considered in managing the development of tourism places.
The approaches to study will differ according to the varying concerns. Much tourism management literature remains quantitative in methodology and considers tourism as consisting of the places of tourist origin (or tourist generating areas), tourist destinations (or places of tourism supply) and the relationship (connections) between origin and destination places, which includes transportation routes, business relationships and traveler motivations.Recent developments in Human geography have resulted in approaches such as those from cultural geography, which take more theoretically diverse approaches to tourism, including a sociology of tourism, which extends beyond tourism as an isolated, exceptional activity and considering how travel fits into the everyday lives and how tourism is not only a consumptive of places, but also produces the sense of place at a destination.
